Invasive exotic plants were introduced from Europe or Asia for ornamental plantings, erosion control and wildlife food. Invasive plants are typically prevalent in and adjacent to agricultural areas, other heavily disturbed areas and are capable of invading undisturbed forests. Invasive plants displace native species, suppress and alter forest succession, inhibit natural regeneration and create localized monocultures if left unchecked. Invasive plants and animals (including insects) are also responsible for a significant degree of the rapid rate of species extinction we are currently experiencing on a global level. These alien plants and their continued spread are a threat to the composition and functioning of the forest ecosystem throughout the region and could ultimately diminish the availability of commercial forest products.
Full Circle Forestry, LLC Foresters evaluate invasive plant populations and provide landowners with strategies and options for effectively controlling these alien plants and mitigating their impact on the ecosystem.
